Feeling Stuck...You're Not Alone
Apr 29, 2026
April is (was) Financial Literacy month.
Overall, it would have been better if I'd sent this in the beginning of the month, but I just didn't.
Plus, every month is financial literacy month for me.

I read this disturbing article recently.
Nearly 70% of young Americans feel like wealth is out of reach.
And more than 60% believe their generation was set up for financial failure.

That's not "I'm behind."
That's not "I need to do better."
That's: I feel like I'm set up to fail.
And when you look at what's actually happening, it starts to make sense:
- Almost 80% say they're spending just to survive
- Over 70% say they need a second income
- Nearly 1 in 3 say they're barely getting by
This isn't a group optimizing investments.
This is a group trying to stay afloat.
And when you're in that place, you're not thinking about Roth IRAs or index funds.
You're thinking about rent. Groceries. Getting through the month.

We've always been told: Learn the rules. Work hard. Save. Invest. You'll be fine.
And that advice isn't wrong.
But it assumes something that isn't quite true anymore: That the starting point is stable.
Because the reality is:

This isn't laziness. Or lack of education. Or a lack of willingness to take risks.
This generation is navigating
- Rising costs
- Uncertainty about the job market
- A stock market that has gone straight up for 15 years
So where does that leave us?
I think we need to be honest about two things at the same time.
1. Yes, it's harder right now.
That's real.
2. But the path still exists.
That's also real. We just need to change our approach.
- It's not about getting everything right.
- It's not about waiting until you "have enough."
- It may not look exactly like what you expect.
It is about:
Building a system that works even when life gets messy.
Because – it will!
- You'll get busy.
- Things will feel tight.
- You won't always feel like you're making progress.
But if something is quietly running in the background, if money is still being set aside, still being invested, still being put to work
then you're moving! Even when it doesn't feel like it.

I'll just say one last thing –
If you're in your twenties and feel like you're behind...
You're not alone.
You're not doing it wrong.
You're navigating something that is harder.
But don't let that turn into inaction.
- Start small.
- Build the system.
- Let time do what it does.
Because even now – especially now –
that's still how this works.
